About Lake Wawasee
Lake Wawasee is located in the resort town of Syracuse, Indiana. It’s the largest natural lake in Indiana with 25 miles of shoreline, over 3,000 acres in size, and a maximum depth of 77 feet. This gorgeous lake is the perfect location for relaxation, fun, and recreation with water that is perfect for any fresh-water activities. Lake Wawasee features a sandbar, three marinas and yacht clubs, and 28 species of fish. The fun doesn’t end in the warmer months. Since the lake freezes over almost every winter, residents can enjoy ice fishing, snowmobiling, and ice boating.
Lake Wawasee offers three boat accessible restaurants. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, cocktails, or live music at The Channel Marker, The Frog Tavern, or the Oakwood Resort restaurants.
In the summer, the lake is home to weekend sailing competitions and the Sunday morning "Thunder Run" wooden boat parades. Celebrate the 4th of July with a fireworks display and Flotilla hosted by the Wawasee Property Owners Association. Residents can enjoy Sunday morning boat-in church services that run from Memorial Day to Labor Day, or they can take a cruise on the SS Lillypad from spring through fall. Enjoy weekend getaways, retirement, or year-round lake living in the lakefront homes that overlook the clear water.
Lake Wawasee is connected to Syracuse Lake, making it a water lover’s paradise. The lake is partially surrounded by the Syracuse-Wawasee trail system for those who wish to walk, run, or bike. Many festivals and events are hosted throughout the year, including the Park Rhythms event, the annual Farmer’s Market, the CruisIn and Carshow, Garden shows, Art Fairs, and more.
Local manufacturing employers include Polywood, Parker Hannifin, Polar Kraft Boats, Travel Lite RV, and Colbin Tool Company.
Enjoy weekend getaways, retirement or year-round lake living. Lake Wawasee is centrally located only 2.5 hours from either downtown Chicago or downtown Indianapolis, or an easy 1 hour from South Bend/Notre Dame or Fort Wayne.
Nearby Warsaw and Goshen provide other entertainment options, such as golf courses and movie theaters. Amish Country is just to the north, where you can spend the day at the Shipshewana flea market or auction house.
