Water activities and sports are highly popular on the lake, including swimming, boating, fishing, ice skating, kayaking, canoeing and wildlife viewing. A public access boat ramp is available at the northwest area of the lake along Hillside Drive. Anglers can reel in a good haul of bluegill, channel catfish, largemouth bass, longear sunfish, white bass and yellow perch.
Walkways and viewing areas around the lake allow residents to enjoy the water year-round. With more than two decades of fun through tricky ascents, swift descents, and enjoyable plains, the Winona Lake Trail System is one of the best mountain bike trail systems in northern Indiana. Feel the wind while on foot or on a bike as you weave through trees and open spaces. The trails span over 110 acres along the southeastern bank of the lake with 10 miles of diverse bicycle trails for beginners and seasoned experts – no wonder why Winona Lake is designated as a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists.
One destination you can’t miss in town is the shopping mecca and historic events place that is The Village at Winona. Historically a summer retreat, The Village is on the National Register of Historic Places and is currently a bustling hub for concerts, performances, and festivals throughout the year, including the Fat & Skinny Tire Fest, Art Fair, Jazz Festival, and Canal Days. Whether for shopping, dining or play, The Village at Winona is sure to satisfy.
Along the eastern shore of the lake, you’ll find Limitless Park. This is where the lake’s designated swimming area is located and where you can rent equipment for various lake activities. The park features state-of-the-art playground equipment and a splash pad — perfect for younger children. Pavilions and picnic tables are available, and tennis and basketball courts can be found in the park for anyone interested in playing.
Private evangelical college Grace College & Seminary also makes its home at Winona Lake. The college offers undergraduate and graduate programs with more than 100 majors, minors, and concentrations.
